Did you know that 85% of young people who participate in community programs experience significantly less criminal delinquency as well as fewer problems with drinking and drugs than those who do not? This study also found that extracurricular involvement with youth their age helps deter delinquency by reducing unstructured time, providing incentives to conform, and creating avenues for attachments with other pro-social peers and adults.
My name is Tegest A Kebede, founder and president of Gifting Dreamers Foundation. Gifting Dreamers Foundation was created as a solution for at-risk youth in Detroit because there are so many young people lost in our community, not due to lack of dreams and ambition but due to the lack of finances, limited opportunity within the community and few positive experiences in their neighborhood.
Inspired by the lack of opportunity and programs for youth in Detroit, I created Gifting Dreamers Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit which empowers and inspires low income at-risk youth to reach their full potential as positive, productive and responsible individuals through FREE life skill classes, experience mentoring and DREAM adventures.
